Academy Theatre

The Academy Theatre was opened in 1940. It was listed as ‘Closed’ in the 1943 edition of Film Daily Yearbook. It had reopened by 1950.

The building has been out of action for many years and has undergone changes both externally and internally.

Opened in 1940 and architected by Ben Schlanger was the Academy Theatre for the Cohen & Kutisker circuit. Seating capacity of the 50' by 112' theatre was 650 at opening and cost just $30,000 to build.
