Coliseum Picture Theatre

Located in the north of Bristol city centre on the corner of Park Row and Woodland Road. The building originally housed a skating rink and the Princes Theatre, where early films were screened.

The skating rink part of the building was converted into the Coliseum Picture Theatre, opening in August 1912. All seating was on a single floor. The Coliseum Picture Theatre was closed in 1924 and went to other uses.

The adjacent Princes Theatre was destroyed by German bombs during World War II, but the Coliseum remained intact, and has now been converted into a building as part of Bristol University.

The scene painter for the Princes painted Nipper, the HMV dog, whose statue adorns the facade nowadays.
