Originally at this address on the northeast corner of 5th Avenue and 1st Street in the Park Slope district, was the Garfield Moving Picture Garden, which opened in May 1910 and closed in 1915.
In 1924, the by then vacant plot of land was purchased by Henry Small with the intention of constructing a movie theatre. The Garfield Theater was opened by June 1925. By 1943 it was operated by the Endicott Circuit. It closed in 1958 after having served the neighborhood’s moviegoing needs for a number of years.

The marquee in the above photo lists “Captain Kidd” with Randolph Scott, “Check Your Guns” with Eddie Dean, Cartoon Show, and a Serial. Kids probably paid .20 cents, an adult a quarter.
