Originally opened as the Mayfield Theatre, by 1946 it had been taken over by Hoyts through their Liberty Theatres subsidiary.
John Roberts Associates who worked almost exclusively for Hoyts Theatres revamped the building in a Streamlined Deco style. It was then known as Hoyts New Mayfield Theatre.
It was still open in 1960, but had closed by 1968. Demolished and replaced by a five floor office block
