Located in Ackworth, near Wakefield & south of Pontefract, West Yorkshire. The New Picture Theatre was upstairs on the first floor of the Ackworth Moor Top Working Men’s Club, which was built in 1907 at a cost of £1,750. The New Picture Theatre was added onto the building at a later date and was licenced by 1914. The entrance and pay-box was on the right side corner of the building, the the auditorium measuring 86 feet long and 26 feet wide. The building has a stage house. At the rear of the building were large chimney’s which were part of a sandstone quarry that backed onto the building. By 1927 it had been renamed Electric Theatre.
In 1929 the Electric Theatre was refused a Cinematograph Licence, due to inadequate provisions for toilets and fire safety issues, and was closed.
By October 2008, it was in use as a banquet hall named Electric Theatre and a part of the building was a Fit 4 Life gymnasium.
