I recently finished a re-edit of the movie for it’s 20th anniversary! Here it is in it’s entirety.
This first manager this theatre had was Charles Hopkins. He was quite possibly the best theatre exhibitor/manager I ever worked for. He managed in Savannah at the Tara, where he was also city manager. Nashville, TN (Hermitage), Easley and others.
He taught me everything, now making me the best theatre exhibitor to ever exist. I helped Charlie design this theatre, only minor adjustments were made and others used this type design.
Charlie will always be the best. “Run'em, Turner.” The first battle cry of my youth.
I worked at Converse Cinemas from 1995-1998 as a projectionist, usher, concession, and box office. I pretty much grew up there. During the summer of 1998, the general manager let me and several friends shoot “Brain Wraps,” a feature length comedy in the style of Clerks, after hours. What I thought would take a month to shoot actually took all summer long. We typically would shoot 4 nights a week from 12:00-4:00am. We recorded roughly 40 tapes, each about 2 hours of material. Then, post production took an additional year. While it never really received a proper release. I did have screenings at USC Upstate, Converse College, and Winthrop University the following year. While I am not crazy about the camera quality of the finished product. It did help me to launch a successful career in film and video editing. And with Converse Cinemas now demolished, it is a lasting memento of what a special place Converse Cinemas was in it’s heydey! If anyone wants to watch the movie, here are the links. I would love feedback if anybody wants to share.
