The Airport Drive-In was open in the early-1950’s with a car capacity listed at 250. Smithfield Road is also known as Northeast Road and Highway 701. The City Directory lists it as Smithfield Highway but the map says Smithfield Road. The drive-in was operated by Queen City Booking from November 24, 1960 and closed by the mid-1960’s.

Smiothfield Rd. and Hobbton Hwy are one in the same Highway 701.
now a car wash! behind the car wash the a few of the ramps still remain! also the car wash signs might be the remains of the old marquee!
Looking at a 1951 aerial photo, the entrance to the drive-in was further south approximately where the Casa de Dios building now stands at 1270 Hobbton Highway, Clinton, NC.
You can see in the 1951 photo the marquee and yes it does look similar to the one that stands today in front of the car wash. If it is the same then it was moved at some point.
