The Macon Theatre opened February 2, 1929 with seating for 200. It was demolished in 1939.
It was replaced by the 650-seat New Macon Theatre which opened January 28, 1940. By 1950 it was operated by Affiliated Theaters, a subsidiary of McLendon Theatres. By 1955 it was operated by CO-AT-CO Theatres, followed by the Dixie Amusement Company in 1961, and finally by the Fred McLendon Circuit. The Macon Theatre was closed in the early to mid-1980’s.

There must have been two Macon theatres in Franklin, North Carolina. The first one opened on February 2, 1929. The second and larger Macon Theatre opened on January 28, 1940.
The architect for the second theatre was Norman F. Stambaugh of Atlanta, Georgia. Apparently the larger theatre replaced the earlier theatre. The information on this page is most likely combining the two theatres.
