Newark Valley Opera House

Apparently a century old (!) at the time of its demolition, the Newark Valley Opera House was torn down in March 1933. Though apparently primarily a live performance and sports venue, movies were shown here as well.

Hopefully a postcard image will surface of this extremely early theater. It would be fascinating to see.

According to a 1980 Binghamton Press article, Newark Valley Opera House was built in 1833 as a Methodist church. When a new church was built c1883, the building was moved to the corner of Main and Brook Streets and was repurposed for use as an opera house. The wood from the building after is demolition was used to construct a barn.
