The Marrero Drive-In opened on November 14, 1949 with Frank Sinatra in “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. It could accommodate 350 cars. Following a fire in the concession building, the drive-In closed on January 25, 1976 with Lynn Redgrave in “The Happy Hooker” & Linda Lovelace in “Linda Lovelace for President”. The location is empty, but the outline of the drive-in is still there in a satellite view.

The Exhibitor, Jan. 30, 1952: “William Shiell, Algiers, La., and E. Jenner, Ellisville, Miss., assumed full ownership of the Marrero Drive-In, Marrero, La. In turn, they sold their interest in the Algiers Drive-In, Algiers, La., and the Hub Drive-In, Lafayette, La., to their former associates, Fred T. McLendon, McLendon Theatres, Union Springs, Ala., and M. A. “Max” Connett, Max Connett Theatres. Shiell will continue to hold the reins of the Marrero Drive-In. In addition, he will have charge of the buying and booking heretofore handled by Sammy Wright, M. A. “Max” Connett Booking Service.”
I have a great memories from my childhood to go in here with my family. My parents were good friends with the owners of the drive-in. We actually lived on the same street in Marrero where I grew up. Does anyone know if the Jenna family is still around?
In addition to the outline and ramps, the foundations of the projection booth/concession stand and ticket booths are still present.
There is also a square foundation near where the screen was located, but I’m not sure based on the aerials what it was. Although it can be seen in the 1972 aerial, so it is related to the drive-in.
Funny that the land hasn’t been developed for housing. A June 2022 Google Street View shows a new house being built just to the east of the drive-in.
Opened Nov. 14, 1949 with “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.” The last listing was Jan. 25, 1976 for “Happy Hooker” and “Linda Lovelace For President.” The closure was the result of a fire that burned the concession stand and projection booth. By March, Masterpiece Pictures was suing the drive-in for rental of movie films. The owner, James Jenner, moved to Laurel, Miss. after the closure.
