Around 1930 it was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system. It was independently operated. In December 1946 it was taken over by the J.B. Milne Theatres circuit. It was equipped with CinemaScope in 1955. The Imperial Cinema was closed in 1976, and was converted into the Kingsway Bingo Club.
This has since closed and the building was demolished by 2012 to build a block of flats on the site.
