Cinema Bio

Located in the Carouge district in the south of Geneva. The Cinema Ideal was opened in 1912. In 1913 it was re-named Cinema Chanteclair and was closed in 1915. In 1920 it re-opened as the Cinema Carouge, and in 1928 it became the Carouge Cinema which operated until 1951. In 1952 it was re-named Cinema Vox which operated until 1971.

In 1972 it became the Cinema Bio and had 194 seats. It operated until the mid-2000’s. In 2004 the building was saved from demolition by the support of the local population, who voted in favour of saving the cinema.

After restoration it has re-opened and now also contains a small 20-seat video screen. The Cinema Bio is a member of the Europa Cinemas group of art house cinemas.
