Academy Cinema City was the result of the conversion of a warehouse into a twin cinema by Wallis Theatres. Shortly after, extra screens were added, and it adopted the name it was best known by.
It closed in mid-2007 and was demolished between August and December of 2007. The site has been redeveloped into a hotel/serviced apartment complex.
