The Escambia Drive-In opened on May 6, 1950 with Noah Beery Jr. in “Dudes are Pretty People” & Bela Lugosi in “Spooks Run Wild”. It was operated by Paul Wood with a car capacity of 200 cars. I believe it closed in 1983 or 1984. It is now an empty wooded lot.

Why the name Escambla?
Escambia County in the upper west portion of Florida where the Drive-In was and named after the nearby Escambia River.
Boxoffice, March 17, 1958: “Weather was holding up repair of the badly damaged screen tower at the Escambia Drive-In, Century, Fla., according to Paul Wood, manager.”
Overgrown with trees is right. The only remnant visible is what’s left of the entrance road and an old, rather sad mailbox that probably hasn’t been used in a long, long time.
