Located in the Wavertree district in the east of Liverpool. The Magnet Cinema was opened on 11th December 1914. Seating was provided on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear, rather than a conventional balcony.
The Magnet Cinema was closed on 23rd May 1959 with Gary Cooper in “Man of the West” and “Hong Kong Confidential”. The building was sold to a furnishing upholster’s and later became a badminton & squash club. Today only the (much altered) outer walls survive, with the roof removed, but there are traces of brick panels on the inner side walls. The space serves as a builders supply yard for Chestnut Building Centres.
