Located in Raunds, Northamptonshire. The Carlton Cinema opened on 18th November 1937. The architect was Robert Marriot from the architectural firm Robert Marriott & Sons. The first film screened at the Carlton Cinema was “Ramona” starring Don Ameche and Loretta Young.
It seated 504, I am unsure if it was on stalls or balcony layout or single floor? The proscenium was 28 feet wide and it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.
By the 1970’s the downturn in film patronage saw the Carlton Cinema change its use alternating film and bingo, and it closed as a cinema in November 1974.
It became a full-time bingo club until closing in 1977. The building became a carpet warehouse and later became a sports & social club. It is now a snooker hall and restaurant called ‘Snooks’.
