When GWTW reopened at the Victory after a short Xmas break it took some time for audiences to respond. MGM had milked it for all its worth, counting out the days at the Liberty, giving the public every impression that the film was concluding 24 December and would not be shown again for quite some time. Having its city run resume without notice almost immediately took time to register. In fact, attendances were so low that it was felt necessary after 10 weeks to start advertising ‘Last Days Will Soon Be Announced’ from 25 March 1941. With this encouragement business slowly revived and grew to the extent that the film lasted a mighty eight months more, concluding its run on 27 November.
