This was for many years a typical one-screen second-run house on Main Street called the Hollywood Theater. In the mid 1980s the owners purchased the lot next door and expanded out to 2nd Avenue, renaming it the Cambridge Cinema and re-opening as a first-run theater.
Originally a two-screen house, at some point the Cambridge Cinema got a three screen addition. The addition was designed by the St.Paul architectural firm Vanney Associates, headed by Robert F. Vanney.
