The Picture House was opened on 16th December 1913 with “The Bells of Death” and “A Third Christmas”. It was built for and operated by the Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT) chain. The auditorium was decorated in a Georgian style, with the side walls hung with tapestries. Across the top of the proscenium was a panel containing a painting of Lord Nelson’s flagship ‘Victory’, which was the work of artist Norman S. Carr.
The Picture House was closed in the early-1930’s (closed by 1932) and was demolished in 1936.
