Gustavo Serena was the director and star of ZAPPATORE, the 1930 Italian silent film (with added score). It was born from the 1929 Neapolitan song of the same title about a peasant farmer whose ungrateful son gambles away money for his education and cruelly rejects his parents…until a final redemption. The December 9, 1989 showing by the Italian Film Society of RI at the Cable Car Cinema was made possible by film scholar/collector William K. Everson. 16mm.
