The Roxy Theatre opened on July 25, 1935. The theatre was in the former Community Hall and could seat 435.
It was described for a historian like this: The Roxy Theatre was located in the former Leadwood Community Hall, which had been remodeled into a theatre. The news story describes the theatre as:
“The house is newly finished on the interior and has Nu-wood on all the walls and had beautiful panel work. This material is the latest acoustic treatment for theatres and at the same time is very beautiful. Over and on each side of the screen are velour drapes, and a velour standee rail is at the back of the house. There is a convenient rest room for each, man or woman. The projection room, entirely fireproof, is 12 x 16 feet, with an eight-foot ceiling. An electric lighted sign will be placed on the front of the theatre. The sound and projection equipment are the latest type wide-range, which makes it possible to produce exactly as the sound is recorded".
The new theatre was open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
The building eventually was demolished, however. The site remains empty. It was owned by Mr. & Mrs. George Karsch who also owned theatres in Flat River, Farmington and Bonne Terre, MO.
