Chabot Cinema

The Chabot Theatre was opened on April 26, 1950 with Dan Dailey in “When Willie Comes Marching Home” & Randolph Scott in “The Nevadan”. The walls at the entrance were decorated with scenes of the Bay Area. Seating was provided for 750 in orchestra and balcony levels.

The Chabot Cinema was later operated by the independent CineLux Theatre chain. It offers state of art luxury with a nostalgic cinema charm. Seating in the balcony has high backed seats. In 2019 it was taken over by an independent operator and screens family movies.

Started going to this show in the 1950’s and still enjoy it. Saw the original “Journey to the Center of the Earth”

The Chabot Theatre has just been sold June 4 2019. No longer run by Cinelux. The buyer was ‘Smalltown Society’ along with the First Presbyterian Church of Hayward CA. They plan on still showing first run family movies along with special events.

The new manager ‘Josh’ will help bring this movie theatre treasure back to life. In the future new rugs, seats, new stage curtains and much needed color lights on the side walls and curtains are coming I have been told. A new stereo sound system is also in the works. Thanks ‘Josh’ for bringing back some showmanship to this nice single screen in Castro Valley CA. This past Sat afternoon 8/24/2019 they ran with the help of the guys that run the car cruise night in Castro Valley a showing in DCP of ‘American Graffiti’ The scope image was nice crisp, bright and clear along with the stereo surround. I will be helping them with the color lights inside. Thanks again Josh!

Here are some rare 35mm policy trailers from the Chabot Theatre in Castro Valley. The Jack Tillmany You Tube site has them up. The Chabot Theatre will soon re open after the C19 dark time. The children must have been rowdy in the 1950’s at the Chabot. Now those kids may have kids of their own.
