The opening of the West Fifth Street Drive-In Theatre took place on June 12, 1953 with Jane Russell in “Montana Belle.” The ozoner opened with 347 spaces with that number of speakers.
Boxoffice, April 24, 1967: “The marquee and surrounding shrubbery were destroyed by a brush fire at the West Fifth Street Drive-In at Ogallala, Neb.”
Boxoffice, Oct. 9, 1967: “Evergreen Theatres of Colorado, headed by Vern Peterson, has taken over operation of the Prairie Theatre and West 5th Street Drive-In from long-time exhibitor Robert Kehr, who took over the operation of the units from his father many years ago.”
Boxoffice, Sept. 17, 1979: “Mid-America Theatres, headed by Craig Stout, has taken over the operation of the Prairie Theatre and the West 5th Street Drive-In Theatre in Ogallala, Neb. from Evergreen Theatres of Colorado which is headquartered in Loveland.”
