A closer address is 2201 140th Ave, Algona, IA.

Google Maps has updated their addresses and this puts it right on the property.

Apart from the exit road which is now the driveway to the home, there is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

Boxoffice, March 15, 1952: (Kansas City notes) “Paul McCarty, formerly with Shreve Theatre Equipment Co. here, and who purchased the Starlite Drive-In at Algona, Iowa, about one year ago, was in town last week and said he had completed negotiations for the sale of the drive-in. McCarty would not disclose the name of the purchaser”

The address above is incorrect. A more accurate address for this theater is 1401 US-18, Algona, IA 50511. This points to the drive in itself. It was at the corner of U.S. 18 and 140th Avenue. This is further south of the listed address.

Please update.

The Starlite Drive-In Theatre launched June 9, 1949 with “Drums Along the Mohawk” and was operated by Wilmer Brown, Earl Spike, and Paul McCarty. Just prior to its one year anniversary a storm toppled the screen tower but the theater got back in business quickly. Following the 1973 season, the Starlite name was dropped and the theater became the Algona Drive-In Theatre the remainder of its operation. It celebrated its 30th anniversary but was a casualty in the home video era.
