Built in 1841 as the Zion Chapel, it was later taken over by the Evangelical Union and became the E.U. Church which closed on 9th July 1913. It opened as the Lyceum Cinema on 18th September 1913. On 23rd December 1916 it was taken over by new operators and renamed Royal Cinema. It did not last long, and by 1918 it had closed and became the John Street Hall. By 1925 it had been taken over by the Salvation Army, who used the building for more than 30 years. It then became a plumbers merchants, and then an antiques warehouse.
In 2014 the building is a bar, known as ‘The Mither Tap’
