Scar House Reservoir was built by Bradford Corporation in Nidderdale, 30 miles north of the City, to supply water to the Bradford area. Work began on 5th October 1921 and it took 15 years to complete. An entire village was built for the workforce, which reached 2,000 at its peak. It had all the amenities the workforce might need, including a 600-seat cinema. The dam was completed in 1933 and the reservoir in 1936. When the project was over, the village was dismantled. Although the cinema hall itself was made of wood, the projection booth was made of concrete and can still be seen to this day.
