Malco Theatres opened the 8-screen Oxford Commons Cinema on October 11, 2013, in the previously closed Amp 10 Theatre. The theatre was renovated with an all new sound system and a state-of-the-art digital projection system and seating.
It was noted by the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that the Amp 10 Theatre originally opened in 2007 with 10 screens and then closed within months. The Daily Journal reported in December of 2008 that it was to be operated by Nova Cinetech, but no other information was found on this arrangement during or after 2009.
The Oxford Commons Cinema also has a grill and bar and outdoor amphitheatre where select movies are shown under the stars, weather permitting. Malco plans on creating a family entertainment center on adjacent land, which would include a 20-lane bowling center. Since 2013 it has been home to the Oxford Film Festival, which moved over from the Oxford Studio Cinema.
The Malco name is derived from the Morris A. Lightman Co. At the start of Malco’s centennial in 2015 they had 35 locations, with four on the drawing boards, spread across four southern states.

When Malco purchased what was The Amp theater, two auditoriums were repurposed when the addition of the bowling alley was built next door. The arcade room is the most noticeable of the two which was repurposed space.
Idk where else to put this comment, but can we get a separate listing of The Amp theater? I have some photos and newspaper stories to show for.
