Hoyts Cinema 1 was part of the new 1970 City Arcade development that linked Perth’s Hay Street Mall with Murray Street. The arcade was midway between the Piccadilly and Plaza Arcades, home to Piccadilly Theatre and Plaza Theatre (later Paris Theatre).
At the time of its opening on 25th February 1971, Hoyts Cinema 1 was a state-of-art cinema with all the latest projection technology. It closed in 1990.

Since I posted this and other images on my Facebook page, there has been a flurry of responses from Perth-based Baby Boomers, such as myself, who saw many movies at Hoyts Cinema 1 during the 1970s and ‘80s.
Hoyts cinema 1 opened on 25/2/1971 with “Tora! Tora! Tora!. City Arcade opened in 1970. Cinema 1 closed in 1990. The auditorium is still there, but the foyer and entrances were converted into shops in the arcade. The ticket booth downstairs(Hay Street level) next to the esclator(Right hand side) remain for a few years before being removed.
City Arcade is now called Carillon City after combining with Carillon Arcade(former Moores Department store site) next door in the(1990’s i think?). Fashion label One Fell Swoop held a fashion show in the cinema space(the seats and carpet already removed, date unknown!!?). There a 9 screen(800 seats) cinema proposed to be built in Carillon City, possibly on the Hoyts Cinema 1 site(proposed to possibly open in 2020/2021!!?)?
The cinema closed in 1983 or 1990?
