The Electric Theatre was opened on 8th September 1910 at Buccleuch Street and Back Dalton Road. It was the first purpose-built cinema in the town. Around 1930 it was equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system. The Electric Theatre was closed on 20th June 1957 with “The Wild North”.
It was converted into a Lewis’s supermarket. Later becoming a Fair Deal mini-mart and operating into the 1970’s, it was later demolished and the site is now Fell Street car park.
