“The Greatest Story Ever Told” with bit part for Poitier ended its first-run in January, 1966. Sidney Poitier’s new films in 1966 included his top-billed “The Slender Thread” with fellow Oscar winner Anne Bancroft. This movie opened during February at the Clinton, University, and New Main Theatres. In April, Poitier was top-billed in “A Patch of Blue,” with the Oscar Best Actress-nominated Elizabeth Hartman and the Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress Shelley Winters. This film opened widely in the Academy Theatres circuit. Poitier’s third film of 1966 was his first western, “Duel at Diablo” where he was second-billed to James Garner. This film opened in June at the three Miles Autos Theatres. Including his second-run pictures, Poitier had a movie running in eleven of the months in 1966
