Suisun Theatre

The Arlington Theatre opened on April 16, 1925 with Richard Barthelmess in “Classmates”. It was operated by Rake & Blumenfeld. It was closed on April 27, 1929 unable to convert to sound. It was taken over by B.C. Wilson who installed a Western Electric sound system and reopened on February 21, 1931 with Marion Davies in “The Bachelor Father”. It closed in April 1933, but reopened on May 25, 1933 under the ownership of Lou Trager. It closed on March 3, 1937 and was taken over by G.R. Moore, reopening a week later on March 12, 1937 as the renamed Suisun Theatre with Robert Montgomery in “The Last of Mrs. Cheyney”. It was closed on March 28, 1957 with Clark Gable in “The Tall Men” & Ida Lupino in “Private Hell 36”.

It was use for the next year for occasional free children’s screenings in school holidays and special events. It has since been demolished and the site in used for car parking.

Rake and Blumenfield opened the Arlington Theatre on April 16, 1925 with Richard Barthemless in “Classmates” supported by “A Spanish Romeo”, a Fox newsreel, and a live accordionist. The venue closed April 27, 1929 unable to convert to sound.

B.C. Wilson reopened the Arlington Theatre on February 21, 1931 with Western Electric sound playing “The Bachelor Father.” He went out of business in April of 1933 but Lou Trager took on the Arlington reopening a month later on May 25, 1933. It closed again on March 3, 1937. It reopened a week later as the Suisun Theatre by G.R. Moore likely on a 20-year lease. The Suisun Theatre closed on March 28, 1957 with “The Tall Men” and “Private Hell 36”. It held sporadic events and several free kids screenings over the next year.

The Suisun’s first film was “The Last of Mrs. Cheyney” at its launch on March 12, 1937.
