The Open Air Theatre opened at Hearson’s Cove village(somewhere near Karratha) in 1980 and catered for the construction workers on the Dampier to Perth gas pipeline. A second Open Air Theatre opened in 1984. The Open Air Theatre was a picture gardens, people could also drive up to the cyclone mesh fence and tune into the sound of the movies on their car radios. Both Open Air Theatre’s closed down in 1988 when the Dampier to Perth gas pipeline work finished. The whole town, including both Open Air Theatre’s, has since been completely bulldozed and the bush is reclaming the land.
