Dowerin Drive-In

Located on Norris Street at the southwest corner of Government Road. The Dowerin Drive-In opened in 1960. The drive-in closed in March 1992. The ramps and buildings and entrance(and exit?) road, screen and speaker poles/speakers are still there.

There is a Photo of the Dowerin Drive-in(mostly the screen) in the book “ Silence: The Western Australian Wheatbelt”(by brad rimmer).

This is an interesting one, looks like its now a private residence with the concession building turned into a house. The screen and ramps appear to be still there along with the ticket box which looks like it was turned into a house for some kind of animals, maybe chickens? Also as mentioned, the screen looks in good condition, that’s one hell of a backyard movie setup, I wonder if they use it?

Operated by Clarence(Paddy) Baker(1960 to 1980’s), the first of his chain of country drive-in’s. Also had a seating area for walk-ins(number of seats unknown?). Closed and reopened a few times during the 1970' and 1980’s. Brought and reopened in 1987 operated by John Marsden, and later leased to Denis Mckenna.
