Empire Cinema

Located in Murton, County Durham. The Empire Cinema was opened in November 1912. Designed by architect Joseph Potts of Sunderland, it had a 20ft wide proscenium and a 11ft deep stage. Seating was provided for 530 in the stalls and 170 in the circle. In 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

The Empire Cinema was closed in August 1964 and was converted into a bingo club. This had closed by 2015. By August 2018 it had been demolished.

Google StreetView dated August 2018 shows it demolished.
