My family owned this cinema. My father was the manager projectionist for quite sometime.I spent many hours there. My family owned several movie theatres at that time, including, the Wembley (became Wembley Lodge), the Empire, the Cameo Gardens and the Shenton Park. At one stage in the late thirties the family owned and operated the Broadway and the Windsor in Nedlands, the Princess in Claremont and the Swanbourne. All of these were sold as a package in 1939. The business was a huge part of our lives.

My younger years were very much associated with the Empire Theatre. It was a place of enchantment and delight for me – I loved going to see the wonderful films on a Friday night with my family. Such a huge part of my young life. The times I floated out the front door pretending to be Doris Day or Audrey Hepburn still caught up in the magic of the recently seen film. Such a delight. I hate to think it’s all gone but my happy happy memories will live on.
