In Hastings, East Sussex, East Cliff House was originally built for the Shakespearean commentator, censor and playwright Edward Capel.
During the early-1900’s it was converted into the East Cliff Electric Bioscope on the ground floor, with Furniss Film Studio upstairs. Films were shown three times a week - all of them being made by Harry Furniss.
These shows ended in 1907. The building has since been used as a bingo club, as Capel’s Wine Bar, and is now New Capel’s fish and chip restaurant.
