In Fraserburgh, on the north east coast of Scotland, north of Aberdeen, the Picture House opened in 1921.
The 1940 and 1953 Kinematograph Year Books list the proprietor as Fraserburgh Picture House. In the earlier edition, the cinema was said to have 1,074 seats. By 1953 this had reduced slightly to 1,018. The proscenium was 30ft wide; the stage was 20ft deep.
According to scottishcinemas.org.uk the Picture House was renamed the King’s Cinema at some stage. Despite the 1953 KYB still using the Picture House name, I have shown King’s Cinema in the header information. Hopefully another contributor can clarify this. It was operated by Fraserburgh Picture House Cinemas Ltd, a subsidiary of Caledonian Associated Cinemas Ltd.
It is not known when the cinema closed. By the time I visited, in June 2001, the building was being used by Carlton Bingo, which use continues.
