Opening in 1950, from then until 1960 the Ciné Scala was managed by the Parish Works department in Diekirch.
It is unclear who operated the cinema from 1960 (assuming it remained open). However, in 1977 the Diekirch Cultural Commission, chaired by Mr Robert Bohnert, founded Cine Club Diekirch and rented the cinema to show its film screenings on 16mm.
From 1980 to 1985 modernisation work was carried out by the Commune of Diekirch, including the installation of 35mm projectors.
Presumably the cinema was closed during that time, as, since 1985 it has been in regular operation as a regional film theatre under the responsibility of the City of Diekirch and in close collaboration with CDAC (Centre d'Animation and Broadcast Film Critics), a network of regional, non-commercial cinemas.
In July 2011 financial resources provided by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Diekirch, the support of Utopia SA and NAC (National Audiovisual Centre) enabled the Cine Scala to make the transition to digital and thus to ensure access to recent films.
