Pegswood Welfare Centre is located in the village of Pegswood, near Morpeth in Northumberland.
The building opened in 1926 as the local cinema.
This was not listed in the Kinematograph Year Books for 1914, 1931 and 1940, but it is listed in the 1953 edition. At that time it was run by the Pegswood Miner’s Welfare Committee and presented one show nightly. The entry also listed a stage that was 20ft deep.
The cinema closed in the early-1960’s.
The Centre is now run by a body of nominated Trustees who are supported by a part time administrator and a dedicated group of volunteers. They provide social, welfare and recreation activities for the local community.
There are now two halls (both with stages), a kitchen and a meeting room to hire for meetings and special functions.
