In Thornhill, Dumfries & Galloway, according to the Scottish Cinemas database, this cinema opened in the 1920’s, as the Picture House, and subsequently renamed the Playhouse.
Unfortunately, it was not listed in the Kinematograph Year Books for 1927, 1931 and 1940.
In the 1953 listing, the cinema is called the Playhouse. It was owned by Thornhill Cinema Company Ltd.
It is not known when the Playhouse closed.
By March 2009, when I visited, the building was in use as a Parliamentary Office for the local Member of Parliament and Members of the Scottish Parliament.
