Situated in the Transylvania region, Brașov is in the central part of Romania, surrounded by the Southern Carpathians.
The Cinema Patria opened in 1962 as the Red Partisan, with 600 seats.
The cinema had closed by the time I visited the city in May 2009.
In 2013 the building housing the cinema was extended and fully modernised. The new Patria Hall comprises a large hall with 422 seats for live performances and a 72 seat Cinemateca Patria, which opened in April 2014.
The new cinema is equipped with a 5m by 3m screen, HD projector and Dolby 5.1 sound system.
It was hoped that interviews with filmmakers, film festivals and other cultural events will be held.
