In Troon, South Ayrshire, the Picture House opened around 1912. By 1927 it was operated by the Thomas Ormiston chain.
The 1931 Kinematograph Year Book listed the owner as Troon Picture House Ltd. The stage was 15ft deep, the proscenium 22ft wide and there were two dressing rooms. It was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system.
The cinema was also listed in the 1958 edition. It had closed by 1963.
By the time I visited, in July 2010, Woolworths occupied a ‘box’ inside the original auditorium, but with a new frontage.
The building was demolished in March 2011 to allow a Tesco store to be built. By 2018 it was a Poundland.
