Located in Dunbar, East Lothian. The Empire Cinema was built at the rear of a house named Festival House on the High Street, which became the home of the manager. The Empire Cinema was opened in 1923 by T.J. Scott and seated 400. In the 1930’s it was enlarged to seat 560 and was taken over by Scotts Empires Ltd. a subsidiary of the Caledonian Associated Cinemas Ltd. circuit.
The Empire Cinema was closed in the 1950’s and re-opened as a bingo club in 1960. This later closed and the building deteriorated and was demolished in the 2000’s. Festival House is still there, with the passageway to the left which led to the cinema now named Empire Close.
