The Boulder Art Cinema, located in the Canyon Theatre on the north side of the Boulder Public Library, opened February 25, 2016. This is a partnership between the Boulder Public Library and Downtown Boulder, Inc.
Their professional film buyer selected “Trumbo", “Amy,” and “The Danish Girl” for the opening weekend. With 200 seats and a Thursday through Saturday schedule, the opening of “Trumbo” on Thursday evening was sold out.
The Seeds Library Café provides the snacks and sweets and the cinema has also obtained a liquor license to serve beer and wine. To operate they rely on volunteers, who work 2-3 hour shifts at least once a month.
The Boulder Art Cinema is also one of the venues used for the Boulder International Film Festival, which is held in early-March. It was closed May 21, 2016, but movies will continue to be screening in the main library’s Canyon Theatre.
