The Owl Theatre was started by Albert Heffernan (owner/manager/projectionist); Irving Folger (technician/mechanician); Donald Blietz (stage manager), and Jerome Harter (publicist and organist). Unlike most 30-seat theatres started by teenagers, the Owl Theatre didn’t last a day or a week; it lasted seven years with a marketing effort and actual bookings from legitimate film exchanges.
Such theaters were probably common in the silent era, this was a legitimate Vitaphone-equipped sound theatre at the outset with a prologue organ show and stage light show. The theatre’s documented history is from 1929 at opening to 1936 at closure. Owner Heffernan taking over the Lynx Theatre in Coopersville appears to end the theatre’s operation.
