The naval base was built and opened in 1963, and pictures shown in the hall in(1965?) until a new theatre and outdoor picture gardens opened in(1965 or 1966 or 1967?). The naval base was officially commissioned on 16th September 1967, and the theatre and gardens restricted to US citizens only.
The Exmouth Drive-in was built in(late-1967) for the use of the Exmouth citizens who could not get on the naval base. The Naval Base possibly still operating? The Naval Base is 4 kilometers north of Exmouth.

The Base is called Naval Communations Station Harold E. Holt. Named after former Australian prime minster Harold E. Holt who disappeared while swimming about the time the base opened.
