Located in Withernsea, East Yorkshire. The Savoy Cinema opened around 1934. It was designed by Mr. C. Lockley, who was also the proprietor. The proscenium was 33ft wide and the stage 13ft deep. Initially opened with an Ultramonic sound system, it was replaced by a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system in 1935. It was operated by BSP Cinemas of Leeds.
The Savoy Cinema was equipped with CinemaScope in 1955 and the screen was 32ft wide. It was closed on 24th March 1962 when the building was gutted by a fire. The remains were converted into a car showroom.

the savoy burnt down on the 24th march 1962 and was at the time owned by reg tomes(grandfather) ..i have a newspaper clipping about this as while it was burning he tried to ring my mother who was in hospital giving birth to me. it never opened again. reg tomes also (around this time late 50,s early 60,s) owned the kinema and the cosy cafe which was part of the cosy cinema(he ran the cosy for a while but didnt own it) .
