Pathe Balexert

Balexert is a shopping centre located in Vernier in the canton of Geneva. It takes its name from the district where it is located. Opened in 1971 and expanded in 1997, the centre includes Switzerland’s largest multiplex.

There are entrances into the Pathe Balexert from the road and from within the shopping centre. Beyond the pay boxes, an escalator takes patrons up to the next level. Screens 1 to 10 are situated around an atrium, while Screens 11 (the VIP auditorium, which has a dedicated foyer/bar) and Screens 12 and 13 are in a separate area.

Seating capacities are: Screen 1: 114; Screen 2: 178; Screen 3: 407; Screen 4 (IMAX): 326; Screen 5: 176; Screen 6: 112; Screen 7 (with D-Box seats): 307; Screen 8: 158; Screen 9: 156; Screen 10: 170; Screen 11 (VIP screen): 92; Screen 12: 260 and Screen 13: 217.

In common with the other Pathe cinemas I visited in Switzerland, the name of the film and the version to be screened (‘VO’ [original language with French and German subtitles] or (for example) ‘VF’ [original language only]) is shown in the bottom left hand corner of the screen before the film starts. This provides a useful reassurance that patrons are in the correct auditorium!
