Located in the outer suburb of Melbourne in the district of Dandenong. The Boomerang Theatre was opened in 1924 with 900-seats. It was operated by the Dandenong Theatre Co. In 1946 the theatre was sold and was then closed for three weeks for refurbishment. It was re-opened as the Mayfair Theatre under the control of Graham S. Slobom with 1,000-seats.
In 1952/1953 the theatre was refurbished and given a new look, complete with the latest Gaumont Kalee projection equipment. The seating capacity was increased to 1,094. It was still independently operated. In late-1967 the cinema became the venue for Italian film screening events, organised intermittently by the Italo-Australian Club. The Mayfair Theatre was closed and demolished in 1968.
A shopping arcade was built on the site.
