Located in the outer suburb of Melbourne in the district of Sandringham. The Sandringham Theatre was built by a syndicate of local shareholders and was officially opened on 7th February 1926. With ground floor seating for 722 and a balcony which seated 478. ‘Talkies’ were introduced in 1929.
It was re-named Roxy Theatre in 1936 when “The Last Outpost” starring Cary Grant was the opening feature. Records show that E.L. Kirmsse ran the theatre for 12-months between 1949 and 1950, with the original syndicate returning between 1951 - 1953. Finally W.A & V.C. Johnson took over from 1953 to 1961. Attendances had dropped off with the advent of Television and the theatre closed in late-1961. The building was demolished in 1982.
